Navigation on Desktop
Select (click or tap) a clue to highlight the word on the grid, or select on a cell (letter) on the grid to highlight the clue. When a word is selected, its clue will show up in the status bar just above the grid. Go to the previous word by selecting the arrow to the left of the status bar. Go to the next word by selecting the arrow to the right of the status bar. Use arrow keys on your keyboard to move around the grid. Change the direction by clicking again on the selected cell, using the arrow keys.
Navigation on Mobile
Play is the same as on a desktop, except that when playing the game on a smaller devices, the clues will disappear entirely, and will only appear in status bars above and below the grid.
Menu Items
Check: To verify the work you've done so far, you can check the letter, word, or entire grid. Incorrect letters will turn red.
Reveal: If you're stuck, you can reveal a letter, word, or entire grid. Revealing the grid will finish the puzzle.
Utilities: You may Save a puzzle to your browser, Print the puzzle to do later, or print the answers to the current puzzle. Use the Restart option to clear the puzzle, reset the timer and begin again.
Settings: Automatic Error Check: (off by default) If you would like to know immediately if you have made an error, turn this on. Incorrect letters on the grid are marked in red.
Archives: Clicking on the small calendar icon will display the archive for a given puzzle from the last 30 days.
Timer: Once the player enters the first letter into the grid, the timer, located opposite of the navigation menu at the top, will start. It can be paused at any time by selecting it, and resumed again by selecting it. When you complete the puzzle, you'll be prompted to share your time with others! On smaller mobile devices, the timer will run, but will not display until the player has completed the puzzle.
